Types of Residencies

Passive Residency

Designed for individuals who wish to reside in Andorra without engaging in professional activities within the country. The main requirements are:

Financial Means: Proof of sufficient annual income to support yourself and your dependents. The applicant must demonstrate income above 300% of the current Andorran annual minimum salary, plus 100% for each dependent. Based on the 2026 minimum monthly salary of €1,525.33, this represents approximately €54,911.88 per year for the main applicant, plus approximately €18,303.96 per year for each dependent.

Investment Requirement: A minimum permanent and effective investment of €1,000,000 in qualifying Andorran assets. Eligible assets may include Andorran real estate, equity or own funds of Andorran resident companies, certain debt or financial instruments issued by Andorran resident entities, Andorran collective investment funds, debt instruments issued by Andorran public administrations, life insurance products contracted with Andorran resident entities, or non-interest-bearing deposits with the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA).

If the investment is made wholly or partly in real estate, more than €800,000 must be allocated to each individual property acquired.

Mandatory Deposit: The main applicant must make a €50,000 payment to the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA), plus €12,000 for each dependent who obtains passive residency status. Since the 2026 reform, these amounts are definitive and non-refundable, except if the initial immigration authorization is denied. This payment is separate from the investment requirement.

Health Insurance: Private medical insurance covering healthcare costs in Andorra.

Passive residency requires you to spend at least 90 days per year in the country.

Active Residency

Active residency is intended for individuals who wish to live and work in Andorra, either through local employment or by establishing and managing their own business in the country.

For employees, the applicant must hold an employment contract with a legally established Andorran company and reside permanently and effectively in Andorra.

For entrepreneurs and business owners, the applicant must usually hold more than 34% of an Andorran company, exercise a management or administrative role, and ensure that the company has a real, registered and active business activity in the country.

Active residents must be registered with the Andorran Social Security system (CASS), which provides access to the local healthcare and social security framework.

In the case of self-employed residence through a company, the applicant must make a €50,000 payment to the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA). Since the 2026 reform, this amount is definitive and non-refundable, except if the initial immigration authorization is denied. Certain innovative, digital or high-value-added technological projects may be exempt, subject to Government criteria.

Active residency generally requires permanent and effective residence in Andorra. For self-employed residents, renewal normally requires at least 183 days per year in the country, depending on the specific category.
